    Anthony studied at the University of Bristol, where he was also organ scholar, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he won the Ricordi conducting prize, and the National Opera Studio.

    As a conductor, répétiteur and arranger, Anthony has worked extensively in the UK and Europe with English Touring Opera, Opéra National du Strasbourg (Jeunes Voix du Rhin), Rossini Festival in Pesaro, Sinfonia Viva, Royal Northern Sinfonia, English National Opera, and Opera North, with whom he has served as Chorus Master, and is currently the Assistant Head of Music.  He has also been involved in music-making for children and younger adults, most notably with Finchley Children’s Music Group and the Royal School of Church Music.  He has worked as a chorus master and accompanist to numerous London-based choirs, and was Organist of St. Paul’s Church, Knightsbridge.

    Based in Yorkshire since 2003 he has conducted several productions for Opera North, including Ruddigore (Gilbert & Sullivan), The Adventures of Pinocchio (Jonathan Dove), Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, Così fan Tutte, The Bartered Bride (Smetana), Joshua (Handel), Cautionary Tales (Wallen).  He has worked with the Leeds Festival Chorus, Manchester Chamber Choir, Huddersfield Choral Society and Sheffield Philharmonic Choir.  Since 2006 he has been Music Director of the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, and in 2014 he was appointed Associate Music Director of the Sinfonia of Leeds.

    Future plans include performances of Il Tabarro and Suor Angelica (Puccini) for Opera North this autumn in Leeds and Edinburgh.
