Peter-Van-Hulle-Headshot-001_resized_1Peter was born in Cumbria and studied at Leeds University, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio in London.  He has had a close relationship with Scottish Opera stretching back 20 years and has sung over 30 roles for them. Peter also has a similarly long association with English National Opera, again having sung more than 20 roles for that company. Elsewhere, he has sung in many of the major opera houses of Europe including: : La Scala, Milan, the Royal Opera House, La Monnaie, Brussels, De Nederlanse Opera, the National Theatre, Budapest and extensively in France, Switzerland and Germany, whilst also twice touring Japan.  Noted for his versatility, Peter started his career as a lyric tenor but his strong acting skills and comedic abilities have led him to recently be in demand as one of the UK’s leading character tenors.  His repertoire has always been extensive and diverse and includes a close association with the music of Britten and increasingly that of Wagner.  Peter is also much in demand as an interpreter of new music giving many world, UK and Scottish premieres, including recent works by Thea Musgrave and creating the role of Charles Lamb in the opera Monster by Sally Beamish and Janice Galloway.
