SEA AND SONG PROJECT
In January 2021, in Scotland's Year of Coasts and Waters and the year COP26 comes to Glasgow, St Andrews Voices launched our inaugural digital education project bringing Ellie Jackson's stories to life with music and environmental messaging in collaboration with the Marine Conservation Society.
Musical animateur and violinist Aisling O’Dea has worked alongside the St Andrews Voices team of Amanda MacLeod and Rufus Sullivan to create musical and environmental workshops for pupils at schools across Scotland to access. At the core of the project is a strong environmental theme that also runs through three Ellie Jackson books that have been brought to life: Duffy’s Lucky Escape, Nelson’s Dangerous Dive and Marli’s Tangled Tale. Led by Rufus Sullivan and Tara Proud from the Marine Conservation Society, pupils will learn about vital ecosystems and animals that we have throughout Scotland and the world, as well as the very real threat humans pose through plastic pollution. This project comes as Scotland celebrates the Year of Coasts and Waters and there comes a real emphasis on protecting our coastline from all forms of pollution and degradation.
